Why Start a Drinking Water Challenge

So first up, before we get stuck in, I want to really increase your drive to get stuck into this 7 Day Water Challenge.

See, we know that up to 60% of the human adult body is water and we hear all the time, “it’s good to drink water.” But you may be wondering why.

Well, according to Healthline, when you drink more water you have…

1) Peak Physical Performance

Water helps to maximise your physical performance. It enables you to exercise better and easier.

(So if you have some big fitness self improvement goals this year – ensuring you’re sufficiently hydrated is particularly important!)

2) Better Brain Power

Water also significantly affects energy levels and brain function.

Studies show that even mild dehydration, such as the loss of 1–3% of body weight, can impair many aspects of brain function.

Uh huh, water affects your mood, your concentration, memory and brain performance – far more than you think, and even the slightest adjustments make a difference.

3) A Healthier, Happier Body

As you may well know, water also helps prevent and treat headaches. (It’s natural medicine at its best!) It can also help relieve constipation, better improve bowel movements and even treat things like kidney stones.

Furthermore, getting enough water can improve blood flow in the skin and body, which in turn, improves your appearance. (It’s why you see so many before and after skin comparison on drinking water challenges!)

4) Water Even Aids Weight Loss

Now, believe it or not, but water really can aid weight loss too!

This is because water can increase satiety and boost your metabolic rate. The higher your metabolism, the more calories you burn on a daily basis.

Drinking water half an hour before meals is the most effective for this, but it’s pretty powerful knowledge to have! (It’s all about learning something new every day, right?!)

5) It’s a Not-So-Secret Hangover Cure!

Last but not least – drinking water helps to prevent hangovers (and we all know how terrible they can be!)

The trick is to drink a glass of water between drinks and have at least one big glass of water before going to bed.

But hey – if you’re drinking alcohol whilst doing your 7 day water challenge, remember you’ll have to drink MORE than your standard requirement to cancel out the water loss from the alcohol itself…

Just something to bear in mind here!

Why Start a 7 Day Water Challenge?

So by now, you should be sufficiently convinced that taking on a drinking water challenge is a good idea! But why start with the 7 Day Water Challenge, specifically?

Well, because it’s less daunting, challenging enough as it is, and sets you up for success.

See, if you’re not a big water drinker at present – a full 30 Day Drinking Water Challenge may feel a little overwhelming.

To go from not drinking much… To suddenly drinking the full standard requirement… Every single day… Well, in many cases – it’s just not going to happen!

What’s more, if it DOESN’T happen, and you don’t reach your target on one day – having to re-start that full 30 days can feel TOUGH!

Instead, with a 7 Day Water Challenge, any set-backs are less “devastating” – you simply try again, and keep trying, until you’ve completed the full week.

Once you have completed the full week, doing that again… and again and again and again, feels easier. Because you’ve already been building up your water drinking through your attempts to complete the 7 Day Water Challenge anyway.

You’re essentially using the 7 Day Water Challenge to MASTER increasing your water intake and make it easier to sustain moving forward. You should only move onto longer challenges, once you’ve successfully achieved the 7 Day Challenge. This then makes your 30 Day Challenge (and beyond!) far easier. It’s all about baby steps, you see? You want to build it up and up, increasing the duration, as your drinking habits start to change. You don’t have to master instant, long-term change, all in one go, basically!

How To Take On The 7 Day Water Challenge

So, what do you do? How do you take on the 7 Day Water Challenge and how exactly, does it work? Well:

  1. Grab a piece of paper, a Health Tracker Pad, or open a new notes tab on your phone.
  2. Write the start date (and day) of your drinking challenge, then list the 7 days following that.
  3. Every day – track how much you’ve drank, giving yourself a big TICK, if you reached your daily water drinking target for that day.

Helpful Tip:

Set reminders on your phone if you need, to encourage you to take a drink (if you’re not currently in the habit of it) and keep your Water Challenge Tracker handy, so that it remains in the forefront of your mind.

You can also grab these Water Tracking Water Bottles which make it EVEN easier, as they remind you to drink throughout the day, and guide you through your daily water drinking requirement.

If You Don’t Reach Your Target On One Day…

Don’t beat yourself up! Do all that you can to reach your daily water drinking target, but if – for any reason – you run short, know that it’s okay.

Simply draw a line under your current challenge and start the 7 Day Water Challenge the following day, until you can consistently reach your target, each day, for the full 7 days.

Does It Have To Be JUST Water?

This is up to you. You set your own rules and guidelines for your drinking water challenge.

The Eatwell Guide says we should drink 6 to 8 cups or glasses of fluid a day. Water, lower-fat milk and sugar-free drinks, including tea and coffee, all count.

However, if you want to go completely pure, you may like to try the 7 Day Water Challenge:

  1. First – including any 99% (ish) water drinks, like squash and tea / coffee, included.
  2. Then – try the 7 Day Drinking Water Challenge again, but this time, purely with water and water alone.

You may like to still add healthy supplements into water. These only have additional health benefits! And if you’re following a set diet (like the keto diet for example, ketones drinks naturally get added into water anyway) so it’s flexible and based 100% around you.

But by doing it this way, with you first focus on drinking more, then focus on drinking pure – you can master it bit by bit, to more confidently move forward!

That’s All For This One

So there we have it – the 7 Day Water Challenge to kick-start a new healthier habit of drinking more, daily.

This is one of the best drinking water challenges, with the highest success rate – then preparing you for bigger, longer drinking challenges. Which you will TOTALLY boss by then, by the way! 😉

So give it a go! Start today. And simply see how you get on…

Don’t worry if you have to try it a few times before successfully completing the full week’s targets. You don’t need to be perfect. You just need to be trying. And gradually – you’ll start to adjust.

Wishing you the best of luck, my happily-hydrated-friends!

Love,
